Apart from exploring the nearby islands, you could simply pamper yourself with a luxurious day out on the beach, maybe some golf, relaxing at the lagoon, and treating yourself to a hot spa.
Day 1 | Airlie Beach & Surrounds
Let’s get to know Airlie Beach well on our day one visit. Today, you’ll explore nearby landmarks, amazing beaches, and a relaxing evening at Airlie Beach Lagoon.
Funnel Bay Beach
The Funnel Bay Beach at Flametree is one of the nearest secluded beaches of Airlie. Located a 10-minute drive away from Airlie, Funnel Bay Beach could be a perfect starting point to start your itinerary. Few visitors venture off to this place, and thus you’ll find it less crowded with tourists. That means you could have the entire beach to yourself, relaxing and gazing into the mesmerizing blue water.
Coral Beach
One of the highlights of Airlie Beach is the famous Coral Beach walking track. Located a 14-minute drive from the tropical island, this adventurous track sits nicely amongst the wilderness of the Conway National Park. The lush greenery, the denser forests, and the sand beneath your legs; make this 1.1 km stroll a memorable one to admire the beauty of Airlie. The walking path is suitable for all age groups and leads directly to Coral Beach. As the name suggests, the beach is full of washed-up corals. You can grab lunch to picnic around this beach to spend the rest of your afternoon.
Travel Tip: Continue to head further down the trail past Coral Beach to reach a vantage point known as The Beak Lookout. It’s a great lookout area to gaze over small and tropical islands.
Visit Honeyeater Lookout
Having a panoramic lookout in the heart of this tropical island is bliss! Especially when you have a viewpoint like Honeyeater Lookout, where you see the entire group of islands in action. The trail that leads to the look point is pretty moderate and can be taken by any level of hikers. It’s an 8.2km trail with few uphill patches but a rewarding one once you reach the top. Depending on your pace, it can take anywhere between one to two hours to complete the stretch. Upon arrival at the summit, you’ll be gifted with some striking 360-degree views of Airlie Beach.
Airlie Beach Lagoon
There’s nothing more peaceful than lying down on a beach, soaking in the tropical vibes of Airlie’s beauty. After your day one exploration, you can directly head to Airlie Beach Lagoon. Located right in the center of the beach, the lagoon has become a popular tourist focal point. With no entry fees, you could literally spend all day relaxing at the lagoon. You’ll often find this spot crowded with tourists, as the lagoon is one of the most-visited spots in Queensland.
Day 2 | Explore the Whitsundays
From marveling at the far-stretched coastlines of Hamilton to feeling the purest sands of Whitehaven, the Whitsunday Islands stands out to be one of the glorious attractions of Queensland. The number of things you can do, places you can visit, and islands you can explore are pretty much limitless. You need three to four days just to spend hopping off across the tiny islands. However, it’s impossible to cover up all the islands of Whitsundays in just a single day.
For our Airlie Beach itinerary, I recommend visiting these two islands:
Whitsunday Island
Out of all the 74 islands, Whitsunday Island is arguably the most beautiful. It’s a definitive experience to visit this island at least once on your trip to Australia. Whitsunday Island is an unmissable place for visitors traveling to Queensland from far away places. The exploration never gets old, and families and honeymooners love spending their time experiencing the evergreen charm of this island.
On the contrary, it isn’t just the island that adores you with its magnifying presence. Whitehaven Beach takes away the credit for being one of the most tranquil beaches on earth. Not to get biased, but there’s probably no such beach that feels as heavenly as Whitehaven does. It just gets better on every visit you make!
Whitehaven sits beautifully amongst the corals of the Great Barrier Reef and is filled with the purest of white silica sands. Take a short stroll across the coastline, and you’ll sense the smoothness of the surface beneath your feet. The beach and its marine life are well-protected, despite the many day-trippers that visit the shore. To make your experience more fruitful, I even suggest booking a snorkeling or scuba-dive activity.

Hamilton Island
Bordered by bushlands and an extensive coastline, Hamilton Island is one gorgeous palm-tree studded beach that cannot be missed by any traveler. It’s where luxury meets comfort, as you can seek branded fancy resorts all over the island. Mostly, Hamilton Island is more suitable for couples and honeymooners; because of the luxurious properties and high-end amenities. However, there’s been an uptrend in families visiting this island more frequently. Well, least to say – every island of the Whitsundays is an eye-catcher.
Hamilton Island is home to plenty of attractions to visit. I highly recommend visiting Hamilton Island wildlife and Dent Island first to get a sense of what the island offers. The former attraction is a family-friendly place where you meet close up with Australia’s beloved native animals. From koalas to crocodiles and bird species, you can almost spot them in the great vicinity. You can then head to Dent Island late afternoon to paddle a kayak or strike a game of golf.
Day 3 | Conway National Park & Cedar Creek Falls
Fringed by rainforest-clad hills, dense, tall forests, and panoramic outlooks, Conway National Park is a secluded, peaceful coastal park that thrives on expansive hiking trails and bushwalking strolls. It’s an idyllic location for those looking to take a day off from the coastal paradises of Airlie. And honestly, Conway National Park is one of the most beautiful natural treasures of the Whitsundays.
The park might seem quite far from Airlie Beach, but it’s worthwhile to trek within. What seems more fascinating is its abundance of unique wildlife species. Inside the national park, you’ll find a multitude of birds, such as brush turkeys and emerald doves. Moreover, the park is home to some rare Australian species.
The best way to explore the wildlife of Conway National Park and its surroundings is to participate in its many amazing trails. The Circuit Track is one of the adventurous tracks to hike upon. It isn’t as beginner-friendly as you might think, but it’s still a great exploration track that winds through deeply forested areas and vantage points. Travelers who prefer a challenge usually start their hike at Forestry Road and finish up at Airlie Beach. It’s a long, hectic 27.1km journey that takes approximately three to four days to complete.
Along with the secluded beaches and many hiking trails, Conway National Park offers plenty of camping opportunities for visitors looking to stay the night.
